Conditions that could be blamed for severe joint pain

Joint pain has been common among all ages. While joint pain in the knee was the condition that came with old age, nowadays, even youngsters suffer from severe joint pain too. There can be many causes of joint pain from heredity to playing sports for long years.

If you suffer from joint pain, finding the root cause should be your first priority to get the right treatment.

Here are the common joint pain causes to be blamed for your aches in knees and shoulders.

  1. Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis that occurs when cartilage—which protects the joints—breaks down due to injury or some health condition. This causes the bones to rub against each other, triggering swelling and joint pain.

Although osteoarthritis can be seen mostly in older people, it can occur in all ages. People who are overweight or have been playing sports for long, are at high risk of developing osteoarthritis. The person having osteoarthritis can see its effects on the knees, hips, neck, lower back, fingers, and big toe.

  1. Psoriatic Arthritis

Psoriatic arthritis is another one of the joint pain causes and can be seen in 30% of individuals. However, managing the condition is especially difficult as there is no cure for autoimmune disease. People who have psoriatic arthritis can experience swelling, stiffness, aches in the joints.

  1. Gout

Gout is a form of arthritis that can be extremely painful; in fact, the pain can sometimes be severe to wake you up in the middle of the night.  In addition to causing pain, Gout affects the big toe, which can be swollen and hot to the touch. The cause of Gout is the high level of uric acid present in the blood. However, being obese or overweight can also be the cause of developing Gout and, in turn, joint pain.

  1. Hypothyroidism

Hyperthyroidism, which is more common in women, can occur when your body’s immune system attacks your underactive thyroid gland. Hyperthyroidism can be a cause of many health conditions along with joint pain such as stiffness, fatigue, constipation, weight gain, and cold intolerance.

Once you understand the joint pain causes, it’s important to seek the right treatment. Pain is a way of your body telling you there is something amiss. Thus, with a proper diagnosis of the condition, your doctor can help you manage and reduce joint pain in the knee and recommend the right treatment to cure the condition that’s causing the pain.
