Information About ITBS Treatment

Many have to deal with the pain of their hips. Therefore, it is common for people to seek a hip pain treatment that works quickly and effectively to alleviate discomfort. In addition, most doctors recommend physical therapy to treat the pain and stiffness of the hip. Physical therapy can also correct weak hip muscles, which are often affected by the condition, and in some cases, the hip pain treatment will restore the muscular weakness.

A patient may experience pain in their hips while running or trying to jump. It often occurs after long periods of inactivity and is usually accompanied by hip drop. This can be described as an awkward swaying motion that puts excessive pressure on one side of the hip and below the knee. The hip drop is the body’s attempt at counteracting the force applied to the hip. Treatment can include pain medication, rest and most often can be corrected with strengthening exercises that correct weaknesses such as hip drop.

Strengthening the hip abductors, external rotators, and internal rotators is important when suffering from IT Band Syndrome. In addition, the lats and the outer bands of the quadriceps muscles are important stabilizers of the hip. In general, strengthening is very effective for reducing symptoms of ITB Syndrome.

The IT band syndrome treatment is usually sought after to help reduce pain and disability. When the hip is forced out of alignment, pain can occur. The condition is known as iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS). The condition occurs more frequently in people who are overweight and those who engage in high activity. Excessive sitting and unusual activities such as basketball and football cause the condition.

The pain associated with ITBS can vary in intensity and duration. It commonly appears on one side of the body at most times, and on rare occasions, it can appear on both sides of the body. It is generally a dull ache with a history of recurrent attacks. The attacks can occur most commonly during the night, and they can last anywhere from fifteen to thirty minutes. It can affect one shoulder or both shoulders at once, and the onset and frequency can vary from one person to the next.

The cause of ITBS is not fully understood, but it is believed to be linked to abnormalities in the muscles and surrounding structures of the lower legs, hips, and pelvis. Research has found that overuse and other trauma to the lower limb can increase the risk of developing ITBS. People who play sports or are involved in activities where their legs are put to unusual stress or strain are at greater risk than others. ITBS can also be a genetic condition, and sometimes it is passed down through families.

It band syndrome treatment involves identifying the factors causing the symptoms and then addressing those issues. For example, a specialist may recommend using a non-surgical procedure to relieve the pain caused by ITBS and tightness of the lumbar region (or hip) and surrounding muscles. Non-surgical options include using ice packs to reduce inflammation and compression and strengthening exercises to strengthen the hip muscles and surrounding tissues. Physical therapy and stretching exercises may also be recommended to help prevent muscle stiffness from returning after a day’s activities.

Surgery is a very last resort for treating ITBS because it usually requires a large incision and a large amount of tissue removed. In addition, excess tissue is removed to reduce pressure on the area surrounding the hip joint. The only other option for treating ITBS is a procedure called a tibial plateau maneuver, which involves using a surgical steel plate to correct problems with the alignment of the femur in the thigh. This flap is made to flatten the internal and external femur so that the condition does not reoccur.
